Vortex

Vortex is a company which manufactures ATM(Automated Teller machine). He named it Vortex as he wanted people to get drawn towards the company. They make solar powered and less space occupying ATMs and  these are used in rural area as well as in urban areas.Mr. Kannan is the CTO(Chief Technical Officer) of the same company.Vortex ATMs use only 60 watts(the power needed for a light bulb!) whereas conventional ATMs use 800 watts and 2000 watts on cooling. Vortex ATMs are designed to be eco-friendly.The ATMs run on the Linux Software.

Mr.  Kannan quotes one incident during his early Vortex days as one of the most interesting moments of his life. During the tenure of Mr. Pranab Mukherjee as finance minister he wanted an ATM installed in his village. He as also to inaugurate it. The State Bank of India imported an ATM to the village which was almost 800Kgs.  Upon arrival the villagers realised the ATM was too big to fit in the room built for it and it requires 3 phase power.  So broke the door to fit but could not find a power source for it. There was just 2 days left for the inauguration. The SBI bank called Vortex for an ATM which was then immediately mobilised to the village.  The ATM required only 60 watts  of power and hence it was put to work by drawing electricity from a nearby residence. The village had power cut when Pranab Mukherjee was just a kilometre away from the inauguration site on the day of inauguration. The Vortex ATM had built in battery which kept the machine in function and hence the event was a grand success.
